Welcome to Christmas Creche! We’re not just for the holidays! Creches can be enjoyed year around. Some are just fun!
MY STORY
I am a Christian and the Nativity story has always resonated with me. I was not raised Roman Catholic so Nativity scenes, or creches, were not a part of my upbringing. At first I thought that these creches were pretty ordinary, but then I began to notice different creches and how the different cultures around the world made them to reflect their cultures.
My fascination grew and I would take any opportunity to see different creches, large and small, serious and not-so serious. When I lived in Rhode Island, some friends decided to see the LaSalette Shrine. They are known for their fabulous light show at Christmas, but they also have an absolutely amazing collection of creches from all over the world.
I began collecting my own creches and have a modest amount that are also very diverse.
WHY THIS TOPIC
Christmas Creches, or Nativity scenes, reflect the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. The holiday is a major Christian feast that is observed in secular as well as religious observances.
The focus is to bring the diversity of this simple depiction of one story in a multitude of different shapes, sizes, and media to a wider audience. By doing this, we hope to bring a moment of happiness people during the Christmas holiday and beyond.
THE GOAL OF THIS SITE
Christmas Creches will focus on Nativity scenes. To show the history, art and stories behind notable Nativities.
If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.
